Quantico – Kill Recap
It seems that with every episode of the show we get more and more details about our NAT’s (New Agents in Training), that make it harder and harder to narrow down our list of suspects. We know that Alex is being set up for the bombing of the station and has been since she entered the academy. However, the question now is who is setting her up? Could it be the mysterious Simon who has been lying this entire time? Natalie who seems to have a rivalry against her? Or maybe it’s O’Connor who had her under watch since the academy and seems to be hell bent on proving her guilty? The main point of last weeks episode was that it revealed; that she had been a part of the plan since the beginning of the academy. What I am most curious about however, is the reason as to why she is the one being used as a scapegoat.
Continuing from last weeks episode, Alex has read over her father’s file and learned that he was a very successful and decorated FBI agent. This knowledge begins to break her down as she keeps reliving the moment she pulled the trigger and killed him. In her mind, Alex killed a hero and that idea has her working even harder during training, but it is also making her reckless. This becomes evident as the NATs are put through a couple of drills imitating hostage situations. The first drill, is to infiltrate a house containing several cutouts of men, women and children each posed as either a hostage or gunman. As the agents go throughout the house, these cutouts will pop out at them at any given moment testing them on their ability to analyze each situation and take action accordingly. This is when Alex moves ahead without her team, although she does well she rushed a head without her team which prompts O’Connor and Miranda to lecture her on her recklessness and how it could possibly get her killed.
After the drill is over, Shelby approaches Alex and confronts her about her recent attitude change. Alex had revealed the contents of her father’s file to her and Shelby guesses that it has something to do with that, and lets her know that she can talk to her. Alex brushes that aside and brings up the fact that Shelby hasn’t explained any of her secretive actions to her so why should she explain herself. At this time O’Connor shows up with their next exercise; their job is to raid the building and take out the robbers who have eight hostages. However, in this hostage crisis there are no cutouts. Other agents have been spread out through the building and have been armed with paintball ammunition to make a real life simulation. As the episode has played out, we have been shown O’Connor as he takes Booth aside to inform him of his new mission with Alex. He tells Booth that Alex is of no more interest to the FBI and that he wants him to make her quit the academy. When he asks O’Connor as to why he’s giving him this order, O’Connor simply says, “that a good soldier knows how to follow orders, not question them”, so during the second trial O’Connor seizes his opportunity to make her quit. As they reach the hostages, Alex rushes ahead but freezes when the situation strikes a major resemblance to when she shot her father. Because of her hesitation Booth, Simon, and herself are “shot” and considered killed. In her emotional state, this causes her to reconsider being in the academy as she thinks that everyone around her dies.
In the end however, Booth takes his concerns with Alex over to Miranda and has her go over the files on Alex’s father. Along with Miranda’s assistance Ryan is able to convince Alex not to quit the academy. Miranda also reveals to Alex that her father wasn’t a hero as he had countless complaints made against him. That her father was a drunk who would have killer her mother and her in she hadn’t have done what she did. Ryan also confronts O’Connor about his true purpose with Alex and how he knows that it’s all under the books. O’Connor however, threatens him by revealing that as far as the bureau knows Booth is there retraining so if he fails he’s done. What he doesn’t realize, is that Ryan has his cellphone connected to Miranda’s who has been listening the entire time. This is why I think the true culprit could possibly be O’Connor.
Flashing forward to the present, we continue to follow Alex as she tries to track down whoever is framing her for the bombings. We know that Booth is helping her from his position at the FBI command center and is now being assisted by Simon. What she doesn’t know though, is that Simon is in contact with Director Clayton. Through Simon, they manage to get her location and deploy a team to go out and capture her. Ryan tries to warn Simon, but quickly realizes that Simon is working with Clayton. However, this proves to be a moot point as Simon continues to stick with Parrish and helps her escape their grasp once again by saying that he might know someone who can trace the wire they have to whoever manufactured the bombs.
With Simon’s contact they find out that the wire can be traced back to Shelby’s company. This prompts them to break into her house to find any kind of evidence that would tie her to the bombings. However, their search for clues is interrupted when Shelby comes home. During the flashback we saw that they were on rocky terms, however after the drills were over and Alex had spoken to Miranda and Booth; she returned to her room and had patched up her friendship with Shelby. It is revealed though, that after finding out the truth about Shelby’s parents their friendship once again crumbled. When Shelby shows up Alex uses this as a motive she would possibly use to set her up, but Shelby disagrees and tells her it wouldn’t be possible because she was out of the country. Parrish claims that she could have detonated the bombs remotely, but Shelby says that wouldn’t have been possible as they were too far underground to detonate remotely therefore it had to be someone who was within a two-block radius. At this point Booth shows up and raises his own gun to Shelby telling Alex that they are tracing Simon’s car and would be there any minute. She tells Booth to take Simon as they can’t be seen with her and decides to take Shelby with her to question her about the wire manufactured by her company. After a small struggle, Alex manages to subdue Shelby to begin her questioning.
